Live, love, study and work

I grew up very protected in a small village in Germany. I knew very early that I was gay but I didn’t tell anybody until I was nearly 20 years old. There were no role models for me and I had to find out most things on my own.
After college I started a study chemistry in an other place. Actually I wanted to study agriculture, but was not admitted to that study. Chemistry wasn’t a good choice for me, so I gave it up after one year. But in that year I lived on my own ( I rented a room) for the first time in my life. I was able to take my first steps in my gay live back then. My gawd I was 19 already when I had sex for the first time in my life. I envy guys that are 16 years old and know already what they want and who seem to hold the whole wide world with admiring gay men in their hands. But ok, that was definitely not me, I was shy and I didn’t tell my parent until I was 20.
After I gave up my study chemistry I moved back in with my parents. I started a career to become a photographer in my father’s business. I had to do something and this was an available option and I wasn’t even that bad.
I refused my service in the German army and signed in for a substitute (civil) service. I wanted to go away from Germany and found Aktion Sühnezeichen/Friedensdienste. They were able to send young men to foreign countries and let that count for a substitute service for the German army. I applied and they send me to Rotterdam in The Netherlands. I arrived there at September 30, 1985 (a sunny day, I remember I was at the beach on October 1st. The service lasted for two years and I worked with drug addicts an in a community center in an old neighborhood. Though The Netherlands and Rotterdam weren’t my first choice I learned to love the country and Rotterdam in particular. When I go back there it still feels like going home.

Leisure

I have very hungry eyes!!! In my vacations I love travelling, I take as many opportunities as I can. I love to see different countries and to meet all kind of people. Italy is my favorite country: so much to see (landscape and culture), such good food and nice people.
Film is my second passion. I love to see independent movies since college. My passion grew when I was living in Rotterdam and able to attend the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR).
For more then ten years I worked as a volunteer in the local art house cinema in Zwolle. I was an operator who screened the movies. I still try to go to the movies as much as possible.
Obviously I like web-surfing and chatting with others all over the world.
